KING LEAR
The opening verses
introducing King Lear.
In ages past this land was ruled
By a monarch called King Lear,
Who grew sullen and depressed
As old age and death drew near.
He’d sit upon his throne for hours
And contemplate his doom;
He could bring an atmosphere
Into any happy room.
He was weary of it all,
He’d really had enough;
Ruling all of Britain
Was extremely heavy stuff.
The country needed people
With fresh, exciting vision,
So, after thinking deeply
He came to a decision.
