       OTHELLO

     The murder of Desdemona.

       He kissed her for the last time
       And the touch was, oh, so sweet,
       He wept as waves of tender love
       Caused his great heart to beat.

       Then Desdemona woke and saw
       Her husband standing by,
       He looked at her and softly said,
       ‘You must prepare to die.’

       She lay there at his mercy,
       She begged him for compassion;
       Othello trembled violently
       With overpowering passion.

       She begged him to inform her
       Of what she had done wrong,
       She swore that she’d been faithful
       To their marriage all along.

       He breathed the name of Cassio,
       And said, ‘You’ve been untrue.’
       She answered, ‘It is all a lie,
       Othello – I love you.’

      But he seized upon a pillow
      And placed it o’er her head,
      He held it firmly till he knew
      That she was truly dead.
