Volume One
OTHELLO
The murder
of Desdemona.
He kissed her for the last time
And the touch was, oh, so sweet,
He wept as waves of tender love
Caused his great heart to beat.
Then Desdemona woke and saw
Her husband standing by,
He looked at her and softly said,
‘You must prepare to die.’
She lay there at his mercy,
She begged him for compassion;
Othello trembled violently
With overpowering passion.
She begged him to inform her
Of what she had done wrong,
She swore that she’d been faithful
To their marriage all along.
He breathed the name of Cassio,
And said, ‘You’ve been untrue.’
She answered, ‘It is all a lie,
Othello – I love you.’
But he seized upon a pillow
And placed it o’er her head,
He held it firmly till he knew
That she was truly dead.
