Mole was working very hard
     With duster, pail and mop,
     When a tired back and aching arms

     And scrooged, then scrooged some more,
     Calling, ‘Up, up, up we go!’
     Till his little paws were sore.

     Then at last his velvet snout
     Pushed through the soft dark ground;
     And trembling with excitement
     He took a look around.
